I’m currently not following the xmonad development close enough to know
what I have to adjust.

Also, these patches have a bug (events are reacted on once per
workspace, instead of once in total) that can not be solved without
changes to the core. I asked for a clean solution (e.g. a hook for
broadcasted events), but there was no reply from the core developers. So
for proper EWMH-interaction, we need some help from them first.
