Btw, unless I'm missing something, from
http://www.haskell.org/platform/linux.html it doesn't look like there's
a binary tar-ball distribution of the HP for Linux in the style of the
GHC binary distribution tarballs, from which the executable could be
extracted. 

What's more, the page refers to distribution-specific packages, which
potentially lag behind wrt to the latest released HP version, and they
don't allow for parallel installs of multiple HP versions (as opposed to
the GHC binary tarball distributions)
