[Haskell-cafe] dependency issues on a new install of haskell-platform 2014.2.0.0 64bit on OSX

so I keep seeing failures in some modules, but if i install them by
hand things get resolved.  How do i get cabal to do this for me?

so the dependencies: criterion -> monad-par-0.3.4.7 ->
parallel-3.2.0.4 which fails

but installing parallel-3.2.0.6 unravels the broken dependency chain.
