 Just to ensure this detail isn't lost, I've been using BayesStack commit
 6df883ec0ac8859cd7422ab2184be620fd72c63a to reproduce this issue.

 Do folks think it would be practical to try bisecting this issue or would
 attempting this just be a waste of time?
