 These two lines, currently do *not* cause the .hc files for compat to be
 created:
 {{{
 $ make boot UseStage1=YES
 $ make -k UseStage1=YES EXTRA_HC_OPTS='-O -fvia-C -keep-hc-files'
 }}}
 but changing the first line to:
 {{{
 $ make boot UseStage1=YES EXTRA_HC_OPTS='-O -fvia-C -keep-hc-files'
 }}}
 does.
