It might very well be a bug in the benchmark. It does lots of scary pointer
manipulation. I haven't had time to look into it and see if it only happens
on some GHC versions (which could suggest a GHC bug) or everywhere. It
doesn't seem to happen on the 32-bit machine used by the shootout server at
least.
