This is related to the fact that GCC on OS X Snow Leopard is 64-bit, while
GHC generates 32-bit code. Instructions for working around are on the
Haskell Wiki:

Fix hsc2hs following the wiki, then reinstall zlib and cabal-install from
tarballs and cabal should work again.
