What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. fresh install xmonad
2. copy default conf from /usr/share/xmonad/ghc/man/xmonad.hs to  
~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs
3. run `xmonad --recompile`

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected the conf compiled without error.
I saw compilation error saying:

xmonad.hs:132:64: Not in scope: `help'

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

xmonad 0.11-r1
ghc 7.6.2 with gentoo-haskell overlay.

OS: gentoo

Are you using an xmonad.hs?  Please attach it and the output of "xmonad
--recompile".

xmonad.hs == default conf under "man" directory
