I'm attaching a quick hack patch I wrote a while ago in an attempt to  
alleviate the symptoms of this problem.

It doesn't seem to completely remove the symptoms (I may be missing a place  
I need to put a setFocusX)- but it does make my system a lot more usable.  
As always, YMMV.
