I also had this problem with NetBeans. ICCCMFocus hook fixed the issue for  
me, but this was pretty hard to find. Also, why should this be a separate  
hook when this is a bug with Xmonad? Also is xmonad still actively  
developed? It looks like the last release was over 2 years ago.
