What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. open up fontforge
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
gimp automatically opens in stacking mode, as that is gimp's natural  
environment. fontforge, which has a similar interface, should too. instead
xmonad tiles it.
