[xmonad] newbie can't load modules

I am running ubuntu 10.04, and I get an error on import Xmonad.

ghc-pkg check shows multiple broken packages. I am not a programmer, but
I've used xmonad with pleasure on other distributions. Any thoughts on what
I can do to fix my system? I've reinstalled ghc and xmonad et al but to no
avail.
