How exactly are the docs outdated?

Note that just by importing the module won't actually use the Tabbed  
layout.  Also,
by default the Tabbed layout doesn't show the tab-bar if only one window is  
present;
see the various tabbedAlways layouts (added by yours truly!) if you want a  
tabbar
there as soon as you have even a single window.
