I get your point about preventing apps to write to dead file
descriptors not being XMonad's job.  If I start X in the way I
described I should somehow prevent this myself.  However I think the
behaviour of XMonad is still not optimal since it shouldn't crash if an
application attempts that.  Or at least it shouldn't do so silently.
It could leave a message in xmonad.errors.  Wasn't there a thread
about unifiying error logging on the mailing list lately?  I can't
seem to find it.
