I think this is a principal problem with how XMonad’s core works, and how  
the panel
gets the window sizes. XMonad just hides the windows from the other  
workspaces, and
only calculates their size when they are actually shown.

This could be solved by always setting the sizes for all windows, even those
currently hidden. I’m not sure if they would want that additional work/code  
for
something that affects a contrib module in a cosmetic way.
