I do know that this is not the case in the current darcs version.  I don't know
whether we made a mistake in 0.6, or if your distro incorrectly modified the
manpage.

Why shouldn't configuration examples in documentation "just work"?  Any distro
package that isn't compatible with example configs is broken.
