I just pushed that patch (well, a cleaner version), also because that 
issue is not
related to this bug report.

thanks for helping me solve that bug: I was able to check all unsafe 
code and left
out the safe one for later inspection and I didn't notice LayoutHints 
and the fact
that it was modifying windows' geometry.

Finally, I'd suggest you to try your tabbed with the WindowArranger 
(just change
Simplest with (arrangeWindow Simpest): this way you can move and resize 
windows whose
geometry has been changed by the LayoutHints layout modifier (well, the 
other windows
too;).
