xmonad always uses Xinerama to detect screen layout, please make sure 
that your X11
library was built with Xinerama support (watch the output of 'Setup 
configure').  If
you continue to have difficulty, please open a  separate bug report.

Steps to reproduce them would be nice too :)

Possibly.  xmonad is a bit different from other window managers and it 
may take a few
minutes to acclimate.
