Usually this kind of problem comes from the application assuming it will  
always receive the window size it
requests (which is explicitly *not* guaranteed by the official X11 window  
management specification).  I suspect
you'll find other tiling (or, possibly, other non-reparenting) window  
managers also don't play well with Skype.
