Yes, you're using the online docs against the darcs version. That 
doesn't make sense,
and isn't supported. Either:

 a) the online docs fail with xmonad version 0.3 -- please report a bug

or

  b) the offline docs in the XMonadContrib source are out of date wrt. 
their source --
pleaes report a bug, or send a patch

Can you clarify precisely which is the case? I suspect you're using the 
darcs head of
xmonad, but looking at the online 0.3 docs?
