What steps will reproduce the problem?
Trying to configure most, if not all, of the contribs according to the
online docs results in errors, which are hard to grasp and fix for newbies.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Docs are essential :P

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
darcs version, but it's the same with 0.3
