I also ran into this on Debian GNU/Linux on a PPC Apple Powerbook G4.
What I did was unregister X11-1.3.0, build and register X11-1.2.3, reregister
X11-extras-0.4, and modify xmonad.cabal to specify the 1.2.3 version of 
the X11 module.
