backwards compatibility of array

The following thread on Haskell-cafe is of interest to this list:

The first email introduces an infelicity in the libraries, but then the discussion says that this address (libraries at haskell.org) is listed as the maintainer of the libraries, and yet the mailing list cannot be written to by the general public. I tend to agree that this should be fixed.
