Maximum and Minimum monoids

Agree. If we do so, we can thus define these:

instance (Ord a, Bounded a) => Monoid (Max a)
instance (Ord a, Bounded a) => Monoid (Min a)

no Maybe wrapper needed, and "Max" and "Min" are brief.
