FWIW I would either not give openFile(directory) a meaning, or map it to
opendir() instead of providing a different meaning.  Possibly IODeviceType
Directory could simply replace open() with opendir(), read() with readdir(),
etc.  (Note that readdir() returns an (inum,filename) tuple.)
