Hugs for Windows 32 - fatal error

I've used WinHugs for my functional programming courses whilst at =
University successfully under Windows 98, however upon recently =
upgrading to Windows 2000 I've hit a problem!
I have to enable the extension for my current piece of coursework, so I =
go to the command line and when I've reached the appropriate directory I =
type winhugs -98, the GUI then starts to load but I get a fatal error =
"unable to load prelude" and the interface prints an error: "ERROR - =
Illegal character escape sequence".
Its weird because hugs still work fine and loads prelude, so it is there =
but for some reason WinHugs has a problem, even when loading it without =
the extensions.
I'm I doing something stupid or do you have any ideas?
