The goal of the International Workshops on Trends in Functional Programming in Education is to gather researchers, professors, teachers, and all professionals that use or are interested in the use of functional programming in education. TFPIE aims to be a venue where novel ideas, classroom-tested ideas, and work in progress on the use of functional programming in education are discussed. The one-day workshop will foster a spirit of open discussion by having a review process for publication after the workshop. TFPIE 2021 welcomes submissions in the above mentioned areas. This year many teaching programmes have had to make a rapid transition to online teaching, and we explicitly solicit papers that explore this area of teaching functional programming. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: -  FP and beginning CS students -  FP and Computational Thinking -  FP and Artificial Intelligence -  FP in Robotics -  FP and Music -  Advanced FP for undergraduates -  FP in graduate education -  Engaging students in research using FP -  FP in Programming Languages -  FP in the high school curriculum -  FP as a stepping stone to other CS topics -  FP and Philosophy -  The pedagogy of teaching FP -  FP and e-learning: MOOCs, automated assessment etc. -  Best Lectures - more details below In addition to papers, we are requesting best lecture presentations. What's your best lecture topic in an FP related course? Do you have a fun way to present FP concepts to novices or perhaps an especially interesting presentation of a difficult topic? In either case, please consider sharing it. Best lecture topics will be selected for presentation based on a short abstract describing the lecture and its interest to TFPIE attendees. The length of the presentation should be comparable to that of a paper. On top of the lecture itself, the presentation can also provide commentary on the lecture. Submissions Potential presenters are invited to submit an extended abstract (4-6 pages) or a draft paper (up to 20 pages) in EPTCS style. The authors of accepted presentations will have their preprints and their slides made available on the workshop's website. Papers and abstracts can be submitted via easychair at the following link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=tfpie2021 After the workshop, presenters are invited to submit (a revised version of) their article for review. The PC will select the best articles for publication in the Electronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science (EPTCS). Articles rejected for presentation and extended abstracts will not be formally reviewed by the PC. The closing date for self-nominations for membership of the Board of the Haskell Foundation is in just under a week: Monday January 11th 2021 The Haskell Foundation is a new non-profit organisation that seeks to articulate the benefits of functional programming to a broader audience, to erase barriers to entry, and to support Haskell as a solidly reliable basis for mission-critical applications. The Board provides the strategic leadership for the Foundation, including its goals, governance, finances, and staff. Membership of the Board is a key leadership role, not an honorary appointment. The Call for Nominations gives more details. Please do consider nominating yourself, or encouraging a suitable (but perhaps modest) colleague to do so. The HF needs a strong Board, and that means strong nominations. Thanks! Please do forward this message on social media or elsewhere. The symposium is planned to take place during November 20-26, 2021, at the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The organisers are monitoring closely the COVID-19 situation; although hoping for an in-person event, they are also planning carefully for a virtual event or a hybrid virtual/in-person event, in case there will be travel restrictions or health advisories following the global COVID-19 crisis. A decision on the nature of the meeting will be announced in due course. PROPOSALS ========= For this major event, we are now inviting proposals for workshops, tutorials, or other similar events that will complement the main FM Symposium. The general purpose of workshops and tutorials is to provide an informal setting for participants to discuss technical issues, exchange research ideas and educational approaches, and to discuss and/or demonstrate applications. These may be driven by fundamental academic interests or by needs from specific application domains. A workshop is an event with an open call for contributions. A tutorial is an event based entirely on invited talks by the organizers or by other speakers. Events that mix open and invited presentations will also be considered. We encourage a diversity of topics relating to different ways of developing and using formal methods. Workshops and tutorials will take place on November 20-21, 2021. Each event (workshop or tutorial) should typically run for 1/2 or 1 day, but 2-day events will also be considered. The FM 2021 organising committee aims to contribute to at least partial support for one invited speaker per event. SUBMISSION INFORMATION ====================== Researchers and practitioners wishing to organise a workshop or tutorial are invited to submit proposals by e-mail to the Workshops & Tutorials Chairs: Tutorial chairs: Luigia Petre (lpetre at abo.fi) and Tim Willemse (t.a.c.willemse at tue.nl) Workshop chairs: Carlo A. Furia (furiac at usi.ch) and Lijun Zhang (zhanglj at ios.ac.cn) A proposal should not exceed three pages and should include the following information: * Title and brief technical description of the event, specifying its goals and formal methods focus, and whether the event is a workshop, tutorial, or any other kind of event. * The names and contact information (web page, email address) of the organisers. The organisers of a workshop will also be its Programme Committee (PC) chairs; in this case, the proposal may also list prospective international PC members. * Pointers to information about past editions of the event, if applicable. Workshop proposals should specify whether it has taken place before; how often it has been co-located with FM or with other conferences, and the number of participants in the most recent instalments. * A discussion of the proposed format and agenda (for example: paper presentations, tutorials, demo sessions, etc). The organisers are encouraged to describe their vision for an online event, should the need occur in light of the current global pandemic crisis. * The proposed duration: half or one day. Exceptionally, two days events may be considered. * Potential invited speaker(s). * Procedures for selecting papers and participants and plans for the publication of proceedings, if any. * A tentative schedule for paper submission and notification of acceptance. The organisers of the proposed events are expected to create and maintain a website for the event; handle paper selection, reviewing and acceptance; draw up a programme of talks; advertise their event though specialist mailing lists; prepare the informal pre-proceedings (if applicable) in a timely fashion; and arrange any post-proceedings. It is located about 25 kilometres (16 miles) east of Brussels. It is the 10th largest municipality in Belgium and the fourth in Flanders. Leuven is home to the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the largest and oldest university of the Low Countries and the oldest Catholic university still in existence. The related university hospital of UZ Leuven, is one of the largest hospitals of Europe. The city is also known for being the headquarters of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest brewer and one of the five largest consumer-goods companies in the world. Leuven's Town Hall is one of the best-known Gothic town halls worldwide and Leuven's pride and joy. It took three architects and thirty years to build it. Leuven's 'Hall of Fame' features 236 statues, which were only added to the façade after 1850. There are 220 men and 16 women in total. On the bottom floor are famous Leuven scientists, artists and historical figures, dressed in Burgundian garb. The first floor is reserved for the patron saints of the various parishes of Leuven. Above them the façade is adorned by the counts and dukes of Brabant while the towers primarily feature biblical figures. The Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) is a self-organised ad-hoc network that can be formed by connecting vehicles with other vehicles on the road and with static infrastructure such as crossroads or parking lots. VANET allows its users to share their information and knowledge about road conditions, events, and traffic. Analysing data from this type of network allows road safety to be increased efficiently by controlling crises on the road and supports traffic management thanks to Internet access for drivers and software developers. However, just like any network, VANET is exposed to attacks and attempts to gain access to data that are generated and transferred between network elements. Therefore, it has become necessary to design, develop, and extend the appropriate security methods, mechanisms and tools for VANET to protect and secure data exchanged between the network nodes, and, consequently, to secure its users and protect them against incorrect information, misinformation, and delays in information sending. This Special Issue aims to present a collection of papers that address problems in the methods, mechanisms, and tools for securing the VANETs and their users by exploring aspects such as security design, architectures, deployment, routing, and protocols. Topics of interest include but not are limited to security methods and mechanics for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication environments, protective methods against any form of security attack (e.g., DoS attack, timing attack, man-in-the-middle attack, Bogus, Sybil, Black, Worm and Gray Hole attack), the security of routing protocols, security and privacy methods for availability, confidentiality, data integration, authentication, and access control. The manuscript submission deadline is 31 August 2021. We will process your paper in time once we receive your submission. For more details please visit the Special Issue website: https://www.mdpi.com/journal/electronics/special_issues/security_measures The topics include but are not limited to: * Security and privacy methods and mechanics * Authentication and access control * Security of routing protocols * Data availability * Confidentiality and integration * Cryptography * Vanet architecture for security * V2v and v2i communication security Please share this invitation with your team members and colleagues; co-authors are most welcome. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in submitting a manuscript for this Special Issue with tentative title and abstract. Your contribution would be most welcome. We are looking forward to hearing from you. The idea of the smart city connects many IT systems that improve and automate various aspects of everyday life. The effect of implementing the smart city idea is the popularization of access to information about the city, plans for further development, improving the work of offices and municipal institutions, better investment conditions, improved communication, improving the functioning of municipal services, improving the conditions of the environment, increasing safety, increasing the number of cultural and sports activities and opportunities to spend free time, as well as the active participation of residents in development and improvement. Thanks to Internet of Things devices, it is possible to automate tedious processes related to measurement and data transfer, and it is also possible to control the mechanisms remotely. In a smart city, there are many different types of sensors that collect information about the environment and send it to the central office. The question is: What to do with such a huge amount of data? Where to store it and how to manage it effectively? This is where cloud computing comes in handy. The main goal of this Special Issue is to analyze the possibilities that arise from the use of Internet of Things and cloud computing in the idea of the smart city, both for technical and utility reasons, as well as for the development of ICT. The manuscript submission deadline is 31 January 2022. We will process your paper in time once we receive your submission.
