[Haskell-cafe] Code runs 7x FASTER with profiling

I'd do both, both to get information on what it looks like in the latest
release and to verify something hasn't changed in 8.3/future 8.4 (which is
moving forward). Certainly the behavior here sounds wrong and should be
reported.
