cabal-install version 0.8.2
using version 1.8.0.6 of the Cabal library

Is it safe to upgrade cabal-install and the cabal library or are those part of the GHC package and I'll end up making things even worse?

I may have corrupted libraries; I think a re-install is in order soon, but I've been avoiding that until I get to the end of my current activities.
