I believe the way is done in hint is something like this (untested):
showType t =
do -- Unqualify necessary types
-- (i.e., do not expose internals)
unqual <- GHC.getPrintUnqual
return $ GHC.showSDocForUser unqual (GHC.pprTypeForUser False
t) -- False means 'drop explicit foralls'
