Or you could use:

concat (
  : "("
  : str
  : ")"
  :[])

Though you do sometimes have to bracket an element that you wouldn't otherwise 
have to, eg

concat (
  : "("
  : str
  : ('a':'b':[])
  : ")"
  :[])
