I would suggest doing away with the class in a case like this.
data Transformation = Transformation {
(<+>) :: SPLModel -> InstanceModel -> InstanceModel
}
data Configuration = Configuration FeatureExpression [Transformation]
I suspect that it was OO heritage that led you to want a class here?
