Yep, I totally agree.
At our school, we're teaching the students assembly language, starting with
8-bit 6502 assembly :-)

Me too. Assembly language is very nice, minimalistic (ok, for today
processor not really, even not for RISC processors) and help you
understand, what really happens in the machine.
