Could you try to install
http://hackage.haskell.org/cgi-bin/hackage-scripts/package/Shellac-0.9.1
and
http://hackage.haskell.org/cgi-bin/hackage-scripts/package/Shellac-readline-0.9

If that works, I'll be content with libedit as well.
