 I'm having this problem in 7.4.1 on a 32-bit PPC machine (kernel and
 userspace). I've been able to reproduce all of erikd's debugging and
 currently I'm of the opinion that the pointer<->handle conversion for
 std{in,out,err} is some how broken. Any insights into the code in
 ghc/GhciMonad.hs that is handling this?
