Comment:

 Simon: in `~simonmar/scratch/statistics` is a checkout of the statistics
 package at the point that exhibits the failure
 (9cd9058379bf91ffd3ccd54163f963cd4d1e8f34).  There are some dependencies,
 so you want to do `cabal install --with-ghc=ghc-7.2.1` to install the
 dependencies and build the package.  It fails with 7.2.1.
