 I strongly dislike this idea. Using two functions of the same name creates
 confusion and leads to countless times of trying to figure out why an
 incorrect version compiles (it's using the wrong function), but a
 corrected one doesn't (it still contains bugs).

 One of the reasons I love Haskell is that it's very clean and readable,
 and this proposal, if approved, would make it significantly less readable.
