 I now installed ghc-6.12.1.20100330 on my x86 laptop, too, and see that
 the line after directory comes out in blue.

 I therefore suspect that the crash is due to terminfo, which I have reason
 to believe is also the culprit for the GHCi failure on PowerPC.
