 while error messages containing identifiers with unicode characters print
 fine, other messages from ghci do not.

 for instance:

 Prelude> α
 <interactive>:1:0: Not in scope: `α'
 Prelude> let α = 4
 Prelude> α
 4
 Prelude> :type α
 � :: Integer
