Comment:

 Do you mean that {{{make maintainer-clean}}} itself produces that error
 message, or the error message is produced when you try to {{{make}}}
 afterward?  I just tried a {{{make maintatiner-clean}}} in libraries/HGL
 and it seemed to clean everything out just fine.
