GHC 6.2.1 and FedoraCore2: ar-related build problem, looked like readline problem

As Simon M. said, it seems the version of "ar" shipeed with FC2 is
broken. It returns a 0 exit code when called with what it believes
to be a non-existing file ("-input").

Hopefully the shell-script snippet I sent, or something like it,
can be used as a work-around.
