It seems to happen (also) just when a pattern match fails
   ___         ___ _
  / _ \ /\  /\/ __(_)
 / /_\// /_/ / /  | |      GHC Interactive, version 6.1, for Haskell 98.
/ /_\\/ __  / /___| |      http://www.haskell.org/ghc/
\____/\/ /_/\____/|_|      Type :? for help.

Loading package base ... linking ... done.
Prelude> case 5 of 3 -> 2
c:\ghc\GHC-BU~1\bin\ghc.exe: panic! (the `impossible' happened, GHC
version 6.1):
        getLinkDeps No iface for [<pkg>]GHCziErr

Please report it as a compiler bug to glasgow-haskell-bugs at haskell.org,
or http://sourceforge.net/projects/ghc/.

also (\[] -> 3) [2] does the same thing.
