GHC 5.02: --make and -i

It seems to me that the -i command line argument is ignored when used
together with --make. GHC reports that the modules can't be found.
Is there any way to use a library (lib*.a + *.hi files) that is not compiled
as a package with ghc --make?

(Windows 2000/ghc 5.02.2 and RedHat Linux 7.1/ghc 5.02.2)
