 We're in complete agreement. I was phrasing things strangely, in that I
 was considering variables to have proper identities, not just uniques.
 That is, the variables in the kind of a free var might, incidentally, have
 a doppelganger in the bound-var set, but that's just a doppelgangers, not
 an appearance of the variable we're processing. In any case, I agree with
 comment:125.
