As far as the original ticket goes, I'm stumped. I tried to construct a
minimal Template Haskell program which should eat up memory by causing a
space leak:

module Bug where
$(let f :: Int -> a
f x = f (x + 1)
in f 0)
}}}
I tried compiling this on GHC 8.2.2 with and without `-O2`, but despite it
using all of my 8GB of memory available, this didn't trigger a segfault.
