Comment:

 Unfortunately the above patches are rather subtly wrong. It's unclear
 whether I will have time to dive back into this before the release and
 frankly I'm not particularly inclined to given that we will likely be
 [[https://github.com/ghc-proposals/ghc-proposals/pull/77|removing]] the
 invariants mechanism in 8.6.
