 Huh.  Indeed those join points have more than one call pattern.  (And are
 non-rec to boot.)

 It looks as if something must have changed since I wrote that. Short of
 reverting to that version of GHC and trying it, I'm not sure what to
 suggest.  Mysterious, but not actually a problem, I guess.
