 Thanks Matthew, that post is a good reference and it confirmed a few
 things I was guessing about. Some of this can perhaps go into the GHC
 manual.

 Mikolaj, there is no difference when the Monoid instance functions are
 also marked NOINLINE in addition to `toList`.
