 I don't need the cache field to be strict. I just need to force values
 before installing them in that field, except when constructing `typeRep
 @Type`. I think I need to know where in the solver we deal with the
 special case of `typeRep @Type`, which I ''think'' is already a special
 case somewhere or other.
