Comment:

 Well one thing's for certain: this isn't going to make it into 8.2.2, as
 that ship's already sailed.

 Whether or not this is a regression is debatable, as this program has
 never done the correct thing (on old versions, it would simply never
 finish the forked computations, whereas now the problem is more readily
 apparent). I'll mark this for the 8.4.1 milestone to be on the safe side.
